This light bacon ranch chicken pasta salad brings together the flavors people love in a simple, satisfying meal prep lunch. It is loaded with tender ranch-seasoned chicken, crispy center cut bacon, roasted red onion, juicy cherry tomatoes, scallions, pasta, and a creamy ranch dressing. It is hearty enough for lunch or dinner, easy to portion, and designed to be a lighter, macro-friendly and WW-friendly pasta salad that still tastes rich and comforting.

What you’ll need to make this light bacon ranch chicken pasta salad
This light bacon ranch chicken pasta salad uses everyday ingredients and turns them into a filling, flavorful meal. The combination of lean protein, pasta, vegetables, bacon, and creamy ranch dressing makes it feel like comfort food while still keeping the recipe balanced.
- Orecchiette or small shell-shaped pasta
- For a gluten-free option, chickpea-based shells or another gluten-free pasta can be used.
- Small pasta shapes work best because they hold the creamy ranch dressing and mix easily with the chicken and vegetables.
- Center cut bacon
- Center cut bacon gives the salad a smoky, savory flavor while keeping it lighter than regular bacon.
- Chicken breast
- Chicken breast adds plenty of protein and makes this pasta salad more filling than a traditional side dish.
- Cherry tomatoes
- Halved cherry tomatoes add freshness, color, and a juicy bite.
- Red onion
- The red onion is roasted with the chicken and bacon, which softens its sharp flavor and adds sweetness.
- Scallions
- Scallions bring a mild onion flavor and a fresh finish.
- Ranch seasoning
- A salt-free ranch seasoning was used in this recipe.
- If your ranch seasoning contains salt, reduce the amount so the pasta salad does not become too salty.
- Ranch dressing
- Use your favorite ranch dressing, a dairy-free ranch dressing, or a lighter ranch dressing depending on your dietary needs.
- Plain non-fat yogurt
- Plain yogurt helps stretch the dressing and keeps the pasta salad creamy without relying on extra oil.
- For a dairy-free version, plain cashew yogurt or another unsweetened dairy-free yogurt can be used.

What makes this recipe “light,” anyway?
This recipe is lighter than a typical bacon ranch pasta salad because it uses a few simple swaps and smart portioning. The goal is not to remove the flavor, but to make the dish feel balanced enough for regular meal prep.
- Center cut bacon is used instead of traditional bacon.
- Center cut bacon is still real pork bacon, but it is usually leaner and contains less fat.
- Plain yogurt is used to stretch the ranch dressing.
- This keeps the salad creamy while reducing the amount of dressing needed.
- No oil is added.
- The chicken, bacon, roasted onion, vegetables, pasta, and dressing provide plenty of flavor without extra oil.
- The pasta is portioned across six servings.
- The recipe uses 4 servings of pasta, but the chicken and vegetables bulk up the salad so each serving is still generous.
- Each serving is about 2 cups, making it a substantial lunch even though it contains less pasta than a standard pasta-only portion.

Perfect for meal prep lunch
This bacon ranch chicken pasta salad is an excellent meal prep lunch because it is easy to make, simple to portion, and does not need to be reheated. Once the pasta, chicken, bacon, and vegetables are cooked and cooled, everything gets tossed together in one large bowl with the creamy ranch dressing mixture.
The recipe makes six large servings, each about 2 cups. That makes it practical for busy weekdays, especially if you want a lunch that is ready to grab from the refrigerator. The balance of chicken, pasta, bacon, and vegetables gives you protein, carbohydrates, fiber, and fat in one complete bowl.
Another benefit of this light bacon ranch chicken pasta salad is that it works well cold. You can pack it in a lunch container, take it to work, bring it to the beach, or enjoy it straight from the fridge at home. Because there is no reheating required, it is especially convenient during the summer, but the flavors are satisfying enough to make year-round.
This recipe is also flexible. If you are dairy free, use dairy-free ranch dressing and plain dairy-free yogurt. If you are gluten free, use a gluten-free pasta that fits your needs. If you are following WW or tracking macros, the recipe is already portioned into six servings so it is easier to plan ahead.
